Me dijo.

ENGLISH VERSION
I must be honest with you, I am not much of a writer, but this week I felt the metal block a real one must feel. I was about to go swimming, hiking, drinking wine or dancing to the moon to be illuminated about how to write about this.

I wanted to write about Chile, but somehow this country has too many meanings for me. I found myself trapped between my feelings and the facts when been there. I visited so many places that one post isn’t enough to summarize them all, so for once again I’ll remain at Santiago de Chile to show you a bit more about this impressive city.

As you should know by now when reading HOME AWAY FROM HOME, my perception of Chile was created much before I could actually step on it. Many of my memories about Chile happened at Santiago because of the thousands of stories my dad told me over the years (he still does it by the way, he is a forever Chile Storyteller)

For example, last night, he told me about a couple of German sisters who moved to Santiago and owned a hostal called “El Hostal Alemán”, they used to treat their blond hair with olive paste to make it shiny and healthy.
“I still remember the smell”
He said. Can you feel it?
Maybe that’s one of the things that I share with my dad, smells are my major source for memories, always makes me remember people and places.

So if I have to say that Santiago smells like something might be sweet, like canned peaches, because of the Huesillos you eat at the streets, which are dry peaches, again hydrated with some sweet syrup juice and some kind of corn, you eat/drink it cold.

Or it smells like sea food, because at the central market you eat tons of sea food with fries, beer and wine. Or smells like hot asphalt when at the streets with tons of cars just driving high speed, or at the metro station where you can see the real face of a Chilean. Or smells like smog like at the top of the San Cristobal hill where the virgin is watching Santiago from, or smells like beer, after all Chile has a huge influence from Germans – they have good beer!-

Wherever you go to at Santiago, you can see the influence of Europeans, in the buildings, in the food, even in the way they think. Anyway, the most remarkable drinks from Chile is far from the Europeans they have a dispute with Peruvians, The Piscos. They still haven´t decide who was the inventor of such a cool drink. But everyone will want to give you one so you can be the judge and decide who has the best one, so be careful you can find yourself tipsy by noon.

Anyway, here I dropped you some photos, each one of those has a little caption so you can have an idea about it. I’ll be the storyteller this time, maybe not as extensive as my dad, but I’ll give it a try.
Please, enjoy Santiago de Chile.
